Senior Accountant

SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the general accounting functions, including maintaining financial records, conducting account reconciliations, and preparing financial reports. This role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to support overall company goals and objectives. Obtains and analyzes financial information to prepare accurate and timely reports, statements, and recommendations, often involving complex
and confidential data. Completes special accounting projects with minimal supervision. Assists the Business Unit Leader – Accounting and Accounting Manager with projects and analysis as needed.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and analyze accounting records, including journal entries, financial statements, general ledger reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory reports, cash flow, and other financial reports to supply timely, accurate and relevant information. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance to GAAP.
  • Analyze complex financial and sales information and provide financial counsel to management team and operations. Investigate discrepancies and variances.
  • Review current reports, departmental processes, and day to day functions to identify recommendations for automation and process improvement.
  • Maintain and process electronic payments of sales & use taxes, sales tax system updates, annual filings, government surveys, and oversee sales tax audits.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts by providing financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to management.
  • Perform general ledger and bank reconciliations, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Calculate and reconcile commission payments for sales reps and distributors.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals, to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Analyze variances between budgeted and actual expenses, investigate discrepancies, and provide explanations and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Maintain the general ledger system, oversee chart of accounts, and ensure proper coding and classification of transactions.
  • Evaluate internal control procedures, identify areas for improvement, and implement controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
  • Continuously assess accounting processes and systems, identify inefficiencies, and recommend and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, provide documentation and explanations as needed, and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
  • Complete month-end and year-end close processes, reports, variance analysis, and audits.
  • Provide coaching and direction to other accountants and finance staff as needed.
  • Document and update procedures for all tasks.
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Exceptional knowledge of accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and banking.
  • Proven mathematical and organizational skills.
  • Highly skilled in maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization, customers, and vendors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to efficiently prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines in a team environment.
 
  • Capable of handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • 5+ years’ experience in general accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with large-scale ERP system, preferably SAP.
 
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands and work environment are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perfor m the essential functions of the job. In addition to continuous sitting and working on a computer, the role may involve continuous reaching forward between shoulder/waist, bending/twisting/rotating, and simple grasping and writing. Occasional exposure to an indoor manufacturing environment, chemicals, and/or fumes may occur. The ability to stand and walk frequently and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs. is required.

Office Environment and Manufacturing Plant
Availability for business travel is required, estimated at 10%
 

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time position with standard Monday through Friday schedule.
Standard work hours apply, with occasional evening or weekend hours expected. Additional hours may be necessary during peak periods.
 
 
COMPENSATION
