Job Title: Design Business Unit Leader – Punching Division Company: Wilson Tool International Division: Punching Reports To: Jason Anton (Manager of Operations Punching Division)
Position Summary:
The Design BUL – Punching Division is responsible for leading and developing the Design, Applications, and CAD Automation teams in support of Wilson Tool International’s Punching product lines. This role ensures high-quality, efficient, and scalable design solutions that meet customer needs, manufacturing requirements, and business objectives. The BUL will provide technical leadership, people management, and process improvement while driving effective use of SolidWorks and DriveWorks automation.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & People Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the Design, Applications, and CAD Automation teams.
Set clear goals, expectations, and performance standards; conduct regular performance reviews and coaching.
Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and continuous-improvement-oriented team culture.
Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
Design & Applications Oversight
Oversee the design and application of punching tools and related solutions to ensure accuracy, quality, and manufacturability.
Ensure designs meet customer requirements, and internal standards.
Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support for complex or non-standard applications.
Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to support customer solutions and resolve issues.
CAD & Automation Leadership
Oversee the effective use of SolidWorks for all CAD design activities.
Facilitate and support the DriveWorks automation strategy, and execution.
Identify opportunities to expand CAD automation to improve speed, and consistency.
Process Improvement & Standards
Develop, maintain, and enforce design standards, best practices, and workflows.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and lead-time reduction.
Support cross-functional initiatives related to product development, standardization, and cost reduction.
Communication & Coordination
Serve as a key point of contact between Design, Applications, Automation, and other business functions.
Communicate priorities, timelines, and risks clearly to stakeholders.
Support customer-facing teams by providing technical insight and design support as needed.
Qualifications Required:
Engineering Drafting / Design degree
Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks.
Experience with DriveWorks or similar CAD automation/configuration tools.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes at Wilson Tool.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
Experience in the punching or tooling industry.
Proven experience implementing or expanding CAD automation solutions.
Lean, or continuous improvement experience.
Experience working cross-functionally with Sales, Manufacturing, and Design teams.
