3rd shift CNC Grinding Machinist (Specials)– Operate Cutting-Edge Precision Equipment

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting the Specials milling and grinding cells to ensure machines run efficiently during setups and breaks. This includes operating a cell of various mills and grinders to produce precision metal parts of different sizes and shapes within the Specials area of the Press Brake Division (Bending).

Machinists at Wilson Tool set up, operate, and adjust machines to perform a wide range of machining operations with a strong emphasis on precision, efficiency, and quality.

This role works extensively with state-of-the-art grinding technology engineered for exceptional accuracy and repeatability. The grinder’s advanced controls and precision capabilities enable operators to consistently achieve tolerances within 0.0001 of an inch, delivering superior surface finishes and dimensional accuracy. Operators will leverage this technology to optimize throughput, maintain part integrity, and uphold the high standards of Wilson Tool craftsmanship.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates machines according to the following process:

  • Inspect and set up machines manually or using small hand tools

  • Inspect and change fixtures as necessary

  • Place piece/part into fixture/machine

  • Set dials, switches, and programs to begin process

  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain precision and quality

  • Remove part from machine when complete and inspect for accuracy and finish

  • Repeat the above steps until the job is finished, or move on to another machine as assigned

  • Support the grinding cell’s continuous improvement efforts by maintaining optimal setups and machine readiness

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate with a 2-year Machine Tool Technology or Tool and Die degree, OR 2nd-year Machine Tool Technology and Tool and Die students.

  • Strong mechanical and technical abilities/experience required.

  • Ability to edit programs and set up multiple machine styles, with a solid understanding of G&M Codes.

  • Willingness to move freely among all cell machines as workload demands.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical data such as blueprints and routings.

  • Strong understanding of machine tooling mathematics, including trigonometry and algebra.

  • Experience or familiarity with precision grinding equipment and high-tolerance manufacturing preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Inside, manufacturing environment
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 3rd Shift, Monday - Friday 11pm - 3:am
COMPENSATION:  DOE, Machinist pay scale + shift differential
